The world of computers is so vast – there are so many sub-divisions of labor. I think about topics like “software engineer” or “network engineer” and I dont fully know what they are. Within the world of computers, are there and areas of work with 1-expected job growth and 2-job security, meaning they wont be out sourced ?

Recently I have been speaking with some programmers and have been noticing a growing number of companies that decide to outsource their programming needs to India where the people work like machines for next to nothing compared to what you would pay someone here.

So my question is that, since I will be heading to college soon, will a degree in computer sciences and a career in programming be much harder to live on rather than say getting a degree in computer engineering and building systems and networks?

I’m a senior in high school and I’ve thought about majoring in computer engineering or electrical engineering in college. However, recently I’ve heard of companies outsourcing in Asian countries for these types of occupations. Being a potential American Engineer, I am wondering if I should be worry about going into this major. Should I maybe switch to another?

I am a college student that hasn’t declared a major yet. I am interested in working in the computer field however I don’t want to go into something that will be shipped to India within a few years. I’ve heard that there are still some jobs in computers that are hard or impossible to outsource. Is there any jobs that involve computers but are more secure to outsourcing?
